Christos S. Mantzoros, MD, DSc

Christos Mantzoros is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He serves as the Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Boston VA Healthcare System and the Director of the Human Nutrition Unit of the Division of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Joslin Diabetes Center.

Dr. Mantzoros obtained an MD and DSc from the University of Athens Medical School, a Master's in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health and a Master’s in Medical Sciences from Harvard Medical School. He has received Board certification in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and in Clinical Nutrition.

At Harvard Medical School, he sees patients, teaches and conducts research on obesity and diabetes / metabolic diseases. Dr. Mantzoros is an internationally recognized expert on obesity and diabetes and has published as an Editor two books, with two editions each, more than 330 papers in Medline, more than 60 publications under the collaborative Look Ahead Research Group, more than 100 chapters and reviews and has received more than 16000 citations.

He has served as an advisor to Pharmaceutical and Diagnostics companies and has been given several awards including the prestigious American Association of Clinical Endocrinology Frontiers in Science Award, the Novartis Award in Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, the Lilly Award by the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, the American Society for Nutrition Mead Johnson Award, the HypoCCS award in Paris, France, the Wilhelm Friedrich Bessel Award by the Humboldt Foundation of Germany, The Hygeia Award of the New England Hellenic Medical and Dental Society, the Outstanding Investigator Award by the American Federation of Medical Research and the Berson Award by the American Physiological Society (FASEB). He is also the recipient of the BIDMC and Harvard Medical School award for excellence in Mentoring and he has been elected a member of ASCI.
