Comprehensive Psychiatry will consider for publication manuscripts prepared in accordance
with the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" as published by the International Committee of Medical
Journal Editors (N Engl J Med 1991;324:424-8). The following information is consistent with these requirements. Authors are encouraged
to review the full report. Studies with human subject participation should note informed consent.
Articles are accepted for publication
on the condition that they are original contributions, submitted solely to Comprehensive Psychiatry. Manuscripts submitted for
review will not be returned to the authors unless requested in advance. Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that
if accepted for publication, copyright in the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be
assigned exclusively to the Publisher.
Preparing the manuscript
All new manuscripts must be submitted through the Comprehensive Psychiatry online submission and review Web site (http://ees.elsevier.com/ComprPsychiatry/ ). Authors
are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (not as a PDF) to this address. In an accompanying letter, authors
should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. When submitting,
authors will be asked to provide a list of six potential reviewers for their manuscript, with e-mail addresses. All research involving
human subjects must include mention in the Methods section that the study was approved by a Human Subjects Review Committee and subjects
participated with informed, voluntary, written consent (or that such consent was waived by the Committee because of the nature of the
research). Information regarding potential conflicts of interest for each author should be included in the cover letter.
Submission
items include a cover letter (save as a separate file for upload), the manuscript (including title page, abstract, main text, references,
and table/figure legends), tables, and figures. Revised manuscripts should also be accompanied by a unique file (separate from the cover
letter) with responses to reviewers' comments. The preferred order of files is as follows: cover letter, response to reviews (revised
manuscripts only), manuscript file, table(s), figure(s). Files should be labeled with appropriate and descriptive file names (e.g., SmithText.doc,
Fig1.eps, Table3.doc). Upload text, tables and graphics (figures) as separate files. (You can compress multiple figure files into a Zip
file and upload that in one step; the system will then unpack the files and prompt you to name each figure.) Do not import figures or
tables into the text document and do not upload your text as a PDF. Complete instructions for electronic artwork submission can
be found www.elsevier.com/authors. Your figures will be tested by
an artwork quality check tool; you will be asked to view the results before you can complete your submission. Your figures can move into
review if not up to production standards, but you should be prepared to provide better quality figures should we express interest in
your manuscript.
Please refrain from using end notes as references or automatic list numbering because these features are lost in
conversion: simply type the reference number in parentheses in the text and type the reference list. Formatting, such as Greek letters,
italics, super- and subscripts, may be used: the coding scheme for such elements must be consistent throughout.
Authors are responsible
for applying for permission for both printed and electronic rights for all borrowed material and are responsible for paying any fees
related to the applications of these permissions.
Preparing illustrations and tables
Tables and illustrations must
be cited in order in the text using Arabic numerals. Each illustration file should be named logically with the figure number (e.g., Fig1.tif).
Figure legends should be typed (double-spaced) and included at the end of the manuscript file. Lettering in figures should be large enough
to be readable when reduced to fit the printed page. Tables should have a title and be as simple as possible.
Figures should be submitted
in electronic format. Images should be provided in EPS or TIF format. Graphics software such as Photoshop and Illustrator, not presentation
software such as PowerPoint, CorelDraw, or Harvard Graphics, should be used to create the art. Color images should be saved as CMYK and
be at a resolution of at least 300 DPI. Gray scale images should be at least 300 DPI, and combinations of gray scale and line art should
be at least 1000 DPI. Line art (black and white or color) should be at least 1200 DPI. If submitting large or multiple figure files to
our Web-based submission site, authors should consider saving the figure(s) in a compressed (.zip) file for a quicker upload.

Contributors are provided with galley proofs and asked to proofread them
immediately for typesetting errors, returning them to the publisher within the week. Important changes in data are allowed, but authors
will be charged for excessive alterations in proof.

Reprints are made available to authors for a nominal
charge. Individuals wishing to obtain reprints of an article that appeared in Comprehensive Psychiatry may do so by contacting
the author.
